FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE B-roll you may use: Voters are Encouraged to Check Eligibility and Locations Before Heading to Polls March 17, 2020 (Phoenix) — The Democratic Presidential Preference Election is today. Due to the rapidly changing dynamics of COVID-19, the Maricopa County Elections Department recommends voters visit BeBallotReady.vote or call 602-506-1511 before heading to the polls to check if they are eligible to vote in this election and to find the voting location nearest them. In-person voters no longer have an assigned polling location. Voters may now select from any of our geographically dispersed Vote Centers. Voters must drop their ballot or be in line at a Vote Center by 7 p.m. today. Postmarks do not count. The Presidential Preference Election, unlike Arizona’s August Primary, is open only to Democrats that were registered to vote by the February 18, 2020 deadline. Those registered without a party, more commonly known as Independent or No Party Designated voters, are not eligible. The Republican and Libertarian parties opted out. There are 732,380 registered Democrats eligible to participate in the Presidential Preference Election. As of Monday, voters requested more than 571,100 early ballots and we’ve processed 285,670 of those ballots. The Elections Department will post unofficial results at 8 p.m. at Results.Maricopa.Vote and update the website throughout the night as results from county Vote Centers are delivered to our tabulation center. Starting Wednesday, March 18, we will update unofficial results daily after 5 p.m. The Democratic Presidential Preference Election is today, Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
