  I testified before the Arizona House of Representatives Transportation Committee on February 12 along with Mayors Mark Mitchell and Jerry Weiers.
I spoke about how a well-maintained transportation network contributes to economic vitality, Maricopa County's remarkable population and economic growth over the past decade and the significant investments the region has made in its roads and highways.
As a region, we have partnered with the state to invest in infrastructure. We have invested billions of dollars to secure the prosperity we enjoy today. We are also in the early stages of planning for the next 20 years. That is the right thing for our region and what is expected by our citizens.
  On February 19, Maricopa County leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Maricopa County Intake, Transfer, and Release Facility (ITR), ushering in not only a new jail but a new era of public safety.
The ITR brings many county services into a single location: intakes, medical assessments, pre-trial services, court hearings, and much more. As a result, the booking process will be more efficient, saving time and money for both county staff and our municipal partners, including police departments. The 500,000 square foot facility is not only expected to be a better environment for county staff, it's also designed to be more welcoming to the public.
Anthem Connected Vehicle Test Bed
 I had the privilege of touring the Anthem Connected Vehicle Test Bed on January 29. There is a very impressive partnership between Maricopa County, University of Arizona and Arizona Department of Transportation testing the use of connected vehicle technology to significantly improve safety. They are also using the Anthem area for testing technology being advanced by the Institute of Automated Mobility. That effort includes additional partners like Arizona State University, Waymo, State Farm and AZ Commerce Authority to name a few. I was pleased to have representatives from U.S. Senator Martha McSally and U.S. Representative Debbie Lesko's office attending.
City of Chandler - "State of the City"
 I enjoyed catching up with so many friends at the City of Chandler State of the City on February 21. It was a great presentation and congratulations to Mayor Kevin Hartke, Council and staff on a great year.
City of Tempe - "Council Chamber Rededication"
 On February 24, I attended the City of Tempe Council Chamber Rededication. What an impressive and functional remodel. It is hard to believe this facility and City Hall are 50 years old. Congratulations to Mayor Mark Mitchell, Council and Staff for a job well done!
Town of Queen Creek - "State of the Town"
 I attended the Town of Queen Creek State of the Town on February 11. I enjoy staying in touch and working with the outstanding communities in my District. I am impressed with how they are handling growth and planning for a future that will sustain the lifestyle they love.
Sun Lakes Hazardous Waste Collection
 A very well run and great event at the Sun Lakes Hazardous Waste Clean-up on February 29. There was a continuous line of people from the time we opened before 8 AM until we shutdown at Noon. I am proud of Maricopa County for supporting this event and a special shout out to Intel Involved Arizona for not only contributing funds to help support but providing a lot of volunteers as well.
AZCEND Eggs Benefit Breakfast
 On February 4, I attended the AZCEND Breakfast. I appreciate all they do to support our community. Thanks to CEO, Trinity Donovan, for her leadership and all of the volunteers who make this such an outstanding organization.
Chandler Men of Action African American Awards Banquet
 Congratulations to my Friend, Rev. Victor Hardy, awarded Chandler Men of Action Man of the Year at the 8th Annual African American Banquet. A well deserved award for a man who does so much for our community. Thanks to Bruce Cooper for being an outstanding MC for this event on February 21.
