Summer Update

McDowell Mountain Regional Park

McDowell Mountain

If you are interested in going camping, our very own McDowell Mountain Regional Park was named as one of the best places to camp in Arizona with 76 individual sites for tent or RV camping along with activities ranging from biking, hiking, and horseback riding on over 50 miles of multi-use trails.

Maricopa County Farm Bureau

AZ Farm

I was honored to speak alongside my friend and colleague, Supervisor Clint Hickman at the Maricopa County Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting. It was a pleasure to meet with Arizona’s farmers and ranchers as they discussed the importance of the agricultural industry to our great state. I appreciate the kind invite from Supervisor Hickman and Mesa Vice-Mayor Mark Freeman.

Investing in Homelessness Solutions

Homless

As the fastest growing county in the nation, it is important that we collaborate with cities throughout the valley to provide resources and continue the dialog of ending homelessness. The Board approved $2 million in federal and county dollars to fund proven programs and initiatives helping to reduce homelessness, unemployment, and recidivism. For more information about the resolution, read here.

Summer Reading Program was a success!

Summer Reading Program

Our Summer Reading Program launched on June 1st and ended on August 1st.   Read here about how our county libraries kept readers busy all summer long.

We appreciate all of our participants this summer and encourage reading throughout the year!

Maricopa County Head Start Programs

Headstart

I had the opportunity to visit one of our Maricopa County Head Start programs located in Mesa. The children presented me with this great gift and we read The Hungry Caterpillar in honor of its 50th anniversary. It was wonderful to see how these federally funded programs are making a difference in our communities by providing early learning, health, nutrition, and family support services to young children and their families.

Calming Canines

animal care and control

The Maricopa County Animal Care and Control Calming Canines event was a success on the 4th of July.  Volunteers from across the Valley came to visit, read, and calm our dogs. We appreciate the time of our volunteers and were thankful to have a volunteer for every dog that evening! Please visit our shelter to adopt one of our homeless pets.

Due to storm damage last year, several trees were lost at the Mesa Cemetery. Being raised in Mesa, I care deeply about this city and its public spaces.I was saddened to learn of the recent damage to the Mesa Cemetery, but heartened to be part of a larger effort to help restore its grounds with new trees to shelter and shade those who come to pay their respects. New Business Partner: Estonia

Estonia

This summer has been exciting. I am honored to announce that I have been appointed as Arizona's new honorary consul to the Republic of Estonia. I look forward to finding new opportunities for commerce between Arizona and Estonia. Read the Phoenix Business Journal article here.

Business Spotlight - Marsh Aviation

chucri marsh aviation

For over 50 years, Marsh Aviation has been a leader in innovation for performance and reliability oriented aircraft upgrades and modifications. We appreciate their leadership in engineering and innovation. I met Chuck Stanford, Jr. President & CEO of Marsh Aviation at Falcon Field, located in my district. It was impressive to learn how the company repurposes retired military airframes to fight wildfires. To learn more about our business spotlight, please click here.
