Dear Friends,
I hope you have been staying cool over the summer. While the monsoon season has gotten a late start this year, it’s not too late to prepare for the next big storm. Take a moment to read through some helpful storm safety tips in this month’s newsletter.
At the July 31st Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board unanimously approved a proclamation making August 2019 Child Support Awareness Month, following the lead of Governor Ducey and the State of Arizona. The Board also unanimously adopted a resolution encouraging collaboration between Maricopa County and various East Valley cities and towns in their efforts to address the crisis of homelessness. Adoption of this resolution is an important step in address this complex issue that impacts many people throughout Maricopa County.
As this school year gets under way, I wish all your children a safe and successful school year and remember to drive safe around school zones.
All my best,
Bill

Did you know that almost all trout harvested in Arizona are stocked from one of the six hatcheries owned and operated by the Arizona Game and Fish Department? Each year, the Department produces an average of 385,000 pounds of fish that are stocked in 118 locations throughout the state, including urban waters in 21 communities. Although that may seem like enough fish, the Arizona Game and Fish Department explains that the increase in demand for fishing, decrease in hatchery water supplies, and the current state of hatchery infrastructure have resulted in an annual shortfall of approximately 110,000 pounds of trout and 230,000 pounds of warm water sport fish.
Game & Fish has been updating its hatchery infrastructure to meet this challenge. These updates will help meet the demand for fish, eliminate production shortfalls, enhance the preservation of Arizona's fish population, and continue to provide opportunities for outdoor recreation. Learn more about the great work and service provided by the Arizona Game & Fish Department by visiting their website.
