 In January, I passed the gavel to my colleague and friend, Bill Gates. I look forward to working with him in 2019 to continue making Maricopa County a leader in innovative government. As we continue to be the nation’s fastest-growing county, it is good to know Maricopa County will have excellent leadership with Chairman Bill Gates at the helm.
 The Board welcomed our new colleague Jack Sellers, Supervisor for District 1. He will be an excellent representative for the East Valley. Transportation, infrastructure and economic development are all crucial components for our region to be successful and prosperous. Jack brings experience in all of these areas. I look forward to working with him on issues important to Maricopa County.
 Maricopa County finalized a partnership with Arizona State University that will result in practical ways to reduce urban heat and improve air quality in our region. I committed us to the hard work involved in building a smart, sustainable future. I am hopeful that other governments and community partners will follow our lead in supporting this important work.

I was honored to participate in a press conference with Governor Ducey, DES, SRP, and First Place where The Precisionists, Inc. (TPI) announced their official expansion of its job creation program for adults with Autism and other diverse abilities. When governments, businesses like The Precisionists, and non-profits like First Place work together, we build a Maricopa County where there is truly opportunity for all.
 Maricopa Animal Care & Control received a check from Petco for a half a million dollars to help save and adopt as many animals as possible. We are grateful for this generous donation.
 I had the honor of meeting with Col. Patrick Donaldson and accompanying the AZ Air National Guard on a refueling mission from the Goldwater Air National Guard Base to Lake Havasu. The Az ANG is a vital part of America’s military presence from a national and global perspective; and an economic driver for Phoenix and Maricopa County. To learn more visit AZ Air National Guard.
I had the pleasure of meeting with Paula Banahan and her team with the Arizona Heart Foundation. It was informative to hear about the steps they are taking to create a healthier community.
 Thank you to the Chandler Chamber of Commerce for inviting me to speak at their Policy Impact Series. It was great to see these business leaders come together to discuss issues important to the community.
