Dear Friends,
Although its not yet officially summer, our daily temperatures are reaching close to 110 and it is important to remember to stay hydrated while hiking and recreating, and most importantly to never leave kids or pets in cars.
There are a number of heat relief stations around the valley. View the map HERE. While we haven't seen rain in months, monsoon season officially starts on June 15th. Take a look below at Maricopa County's Storm Preparation information page.
In June, the Board of Supervisors adopts the final budget for the coming year. The vote will occur on June 25th. You can find the Board approval of the tentative budget HERE. I am pleased to approve a budget that held the property tax rate level and reduced overall expenditures.
June also kicked off the Maricopa County Library District's Annual Summer Reading Challenge. Sign up below to complete my Summer 2018 Reading Badge. The countywide theme is "Libraries Rock", but I've added my own local flavor to this year's theme as water has been a main focus over the past year.
I hope to see you at both my June County Coffee tomorrow, June 7th, and my Community Meeting Wednesday, June 20th. There will be no County Coffees or Community Meetings in July and August as we break for the summer.
All my best,
Bill
 The Maricopa
County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the tentative budget for
fiscal year 2019 on May 21, that decreases spending year-over-year without raising
the tax rate.
“The Board has prioritized leaner, more
efficient government and the FY 2019 budget shows how those efforts are
paying off,” said Vice Chairman Bill Gates, District 3. “Total
spending is down nearly 2% from FY 2018; we have 500 fewer positions at
the County than we did a decade ago; and we are, in many ways, providing
better customer service than ever.”
