I had the opportunity to end the 5th Annual Phoenix Tools 4 School event. This initiative provides over 7,000 students with book bags, notebooks, writing utensils and other necessary supplies. Thank you to the Checkered Flag Run Foundation and The Salvation Army Kroc Center for putting this event together to ensure school readiness for children in our communities. The sponsors of the event produced this video.

Food for Fines

This summer the Maricopa County Library District allowed individuals to pay off overdue fines on their accounts by bringing in donations of non-perishable food items to any Maricopa County library.  This year the Maricopa County Library District waived $35,968.61 in fines.  That equals 17,984 non-perishable food items for pantries in our local communities.  Thank you to all for participating and donating towards #foodforfines!

Maricopa County Received 54 NACo Awards

NACo Awards

Congratulations to the more than 20 County departments receiving a total of 54 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards. Those accomplishments were honored at the County’s own NACo Achievement Awards Ceremony. One of the awards received was for Home Improvement for Heroes: Accessibility Modifications for Veterans with Disabilities. I am proud to have worked with our Human Services Department and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community on the grant to help several local veterans with service-connected disabilities. These funds retrofit homes to allow veterans to live independently and with dignity in a safe, suitably-adapted home. Maricopa County is proud and deeply honored to work with veterans in our community that have sacrificed so much to serve our country. This is how the Home Modification Grants have helped one family in need. View video.
