Maricopa
County Environmental Services Department (MCESD) invites regulated swimming
pool contractors, owners, operators and interested parties to a meeting for
review of proposed changes to State of Arizona pool construction rules. The Arizona Department of Environmental
Quality (ADEQ) has released their Notice of Proposed Rule Making to change the
Arizona Administrative Code rules for Public & Semi-Public Pools and Spas.
The meeting
is scheduled for Tuesday, July 18, 2017, 11:00 am – Noon, at MCESD offices,
1001 N Central Ave, Phoenix, 9th Floor.
Our Aquatic Health
and Safety Plan Review Program staff is reviewing the rules for changed rules
that are stricter than our current Environmental Health Code, as we would be
required to implement those items. For
example, the proposal requires all plans to be sealed by an engineer or
architect. Currently, plans provided by
a licensed pool contractor are also accepted.
At the meeting, we will present plan review process changes that we
would be required to implement if the rules are implemented as proposed.
ADEQ is
accepting comments to proposed rules until August 14, which is also the date of
their public hearing on the rule change.
See the ADEQ website for details on the rule change: http://www.azdeq.gov/events/public-hearing-draft-proposed-rulemaking-public-and-semipublic-swimming-pools-and-spas.
The Model Aquatic Health Code
sections listed in the proposed rule can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/mahc/editions/current.html.
Current
Maricopa County Rules for public and semi-public swimming pools, spas and
splash pads are included in Chapter 6 of the Maricopa County Environmental
Health Code, posted on our website: http://www.maricopa.gov/631/Environmental-Services.
