Dear Friends,
Can you believe it is already May? With warmer
temperatures on their way, Maricopa County and the District 3 office took
advantage of some tremendous April weather to participate in many great events
and activities.
Maricopa County, once again, beat our friendly rival, the
City of Phoenix, in our annual Bike to Work Day challenge. I joined our
Chairman Denny Barney and District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo, as well as
Sheriff Paul Penzone, Recorder Adrian Fontes, and Superintendent
Steve Watson, as we traded in our cars for the day to ride our bikes to work.
It was a great way for Maricopa County to help promote healthy activities and
clean air. Oh, and did I mention we beat the City of Pheonix to the finish line? Make sure to read my article in the Arizona Republic, My Turn: Yes you really can bike around metro Phoenix, and view the
day’s highlights in the videos below.
The Arizona Farm Bureau held our District 3 Farm Breakfast the day after we biked to work, and we could
not have asked for better weather, food, or discussion. The annual breakfast
was a great way to learn about and celebrate the wonderful agriculture that our
county has to offer.
As we get closer to our hot summer weather, I want to
highlight an important department in Maricopa County, the Air Quality
Department. One side effect of our summer heat in the valley is an increase of ozone
in our air. Read more below on how our Air Quality Department works
to keep our air clean and healthy for all of our Maricopa County residents.
Here’s to a beautiful
May!
All my best, Bill Gates
