A message from Supervisor Bill Gates

Dear Friends,

As 2017 flies by (can you believe it’s already April?), let’s take a moment to reflect on the great things that have happened in Maricopa County so far this year.

Phoenix witnessed yet another last second championship game while hosting its first NCAA Final Four last weekend. Downtown Phoenix and Margaret T. Hance Park were filled with energy while hosting Fan Fest and the numerous big name musical acts. The Valley continues to be an amazing host to major championship events, all of which seem to be some of the most exciting championships of our time.

It was recently reported that Maricopa County added more residents in 2016 than any other county in the country. People are coming to our county because of our great climate, friendly residents, low taxes and business friendly environment.  

On April 1st, the Prickly Pedal Mountain Bike Race was held and was big success for a second year in a row. I want to thank all of you who came out to support the race by participating, volunteering, or cheering on our riders. I look forward to many more successful years of racing on the Maricopa Trail.

I would like to highlight one of our county departments in this edition of the District 3 newsletter, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. MCACC continues to do a fantastic job of sheltering, caring, and finding homes for more than 35,000 cats and dogs a year. Please continue reading below to learn more about MCACC.

Longtime Arizona farmer, John Augustine, took Supervisor Gates on a tour of his nursery, Desert Tree Farm, and displayed some of the beautiful new plant species he has developed.

Animal Care and Control

Take a look at this VIDEO to see the fun new way Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is finding homes for dogs. More than 35,000 dogs and cats enter the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shelters a year. With numbers like these, MCACC is a great place to start if you are looking to adopt a new pet. Weekend Travel Advisory

April 7-10, 2017

Drivers should be aware of the following restrictions this weekend:

• Southbound Interstate 17 closed between Camelback and Thomas roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday
• Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between I-17 “Stack” interchange and State Route 51 near downtown Phoenix from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday
• Westbound Interstate 10 closed between I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday
