Four Community Members Appointed To School Governing Boards

(PHOENIX, AZ) – Maricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson announced on Monday, March 6, the appointment of four individuals to serve on local school district governing boards in accordance with statutory authority granted to county superintendents.

Public school districts are required to be governed by an elected board that represents the community (A.R.S. § 15-421). When a governing board vacancy is declared, whether mid-term or because no candidate has come forward to run for a seat, the county school superintendent is authorized by statute to appoint a qualified elector from the district to fill the seat. Four Maricopa County school districts requested assistance in filling these vacancies.

Superintendent Watson selected appointees from a list of candidates submitted by each of the represented school communities. The Superintendent met with candidates during a Governing Board Appointee Seminar conducted on Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Superintendent Watson is announcing the following appointments to Maricopa County school district governing boards:

Avondale Elementary School District- Megan Griego

Sentinal Elementary School District- Trixie Skousen

Washington Elementary School District- Nikkie Whaley

Wickenburg Elementary School District- Randy Hodges

The newly appointed governing board members will be sworn into office this Wednesday, March 8, at 9 a.m. The ceremonies will take place at Maricopa County Education Service Agency (MCESA) located at 4041 N. Central Ave, Suite 1200, Phoenix AZ, 85012.
