Gingerbread Workshop
 12/03/2016 To 12/16/2016 

Start a new family tradition! Decorate your very own Gingerbread House in this creative and edible program! The Museum will provide the gingerbread, a candy buffet, and hot cocoa. The best part about it, we'll clean up the mess! Admission to the program is $30 for members (group of 4), and $35 for non-members (group of 4). Space is limited.

T'S TARGET FREE FIRST FRIDAY NIGHT

Friday, December 2 | 5:00 to 9:00 

Join us First Friday Night when the Museum is open FREE to the general public from 5pm to 9pm. This evening of play is generously funded by Target.  

Tonight, we will be offering our Giant Gingerbread People program! You'll decorate your very own giant gingerbread person in this creative and edible program. Admission to the program is $10 for members and $12 for Non-members for each cookie purchased.

Chandler Children's Choir Auditions 

Does your child love to sing?  Schedule an audition with the Chandler Children's Choir. Now in its 9th season, the Chandler Children's Choir excels in choral education, using a fun and inspiring program of sight-singing and vocal instruction, classic repertoire, and varied performances at East Valley venues.  Boys and girls ages 7-18  may audition.  This will be a wonderful evening for your 13-19 year old teen to dress up, spend time with friends, have their photo taken, dance, eat, and be merry!

Homeschool Chorus and Band 

Two classes that you do not want to miss are this chorus and/or band class. It is uplifting and fun to sing with fellow homeschoolers. The band plays lots of movie songs that are fun! This chorus class requires no previous experience. The band class is for intermediate players, but I have more information available for beginners.

HOMESCHOOL CONFERENCE 

Plans are underway for AFHE's first-ever Special Needs & Gifted Learners Homeschool Conference geared toward encouraging and equipping parents who are teaching children with special needs and/or are gifted learners. Mark your calendars and watch for details on the website (coming soon) and in the enewsletter as they become available.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The only real outdoor ice skating rink in the Valley opens at Westgate and its part of a slew of winter events happening at the outdoor entertainment venue.

The rink operates for seven weeks from Nov. 22 - Jan. 8.

There are also horse-drawn carriage rides that are free to all.

There is a snowfall that happens twice nightly and Santa Claus is on-hand to listen to Christmas wishes and pose for photos.

On Tuesday, Nov. 22 for the opening of the ice rink, Westgate will host the Holiday Tree Lighting, turning on a 33-foot holiday tree. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Get into the holiday spirit in downtown Glendale 

 Featuring 1.5 million LED lights, this holiday display is a family-friendly event that features entertainment, food, handcrafted gifts, a winter wonderland area for kids and special visits from St. Nicholas. Also enjoy a countdown to the lighting ceremony. Other holiday-themed events are scheduled in downtown Glendale every Friday and Saturday night, 6-10 p.m., through Dec. 17. The lights will be on display 5-11 p.m. each night through Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.

The Nutcracker at Ballet Arizona

First performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1892, Tchaikovsky's fairy-tale ballet is a holiday tradition for families around the globe. Ballet Arizona's annual "Nutcracker" is a true spectacle staged with 260 costumes, 25 backdrops and 200 pounds of falling "snow."

Salt Dough Ornaments

Ingredients

  •  4 cups all-purpose flour
  •  1 1/2 cups water
  •  1 cup salt  

Directions:

  •  Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  •  Combine the flour, salt and water; mix well and knead for 10 minutes. Roll out on a lightly floured surface.
  •  Cut into desired shapes and make holes for hanging. Bake for 30 minutes; allow to cool
  •  Decorate with poster paints or tube paints. Allow to dry and spray with clear polyurethane on both sides to preserve. Use ribbon or yarn pieces to hang.
