Featured Exhibition at Arizona Science Center
The World of Giant Insects
May 28–Sept. 5, 2016
Arizona Science Center’s latest featured exhibition, The World of Giant Insects, transports you into a bug’s life getting up close and personal with interactive animatronic critters.
Stand under a giant Desert Locust as it springs to flight. Watch as the Chinese Praying Mantis spreads its menacing limbs or sit alongside a fat and squishy Lime Swallowtail Caterpillar munching on vegetation as it prepares to transform into a butterfly. Have you ever wondered what a mosquito’s mouth looks like? At 40 to 120 times life size, you have the ability to get up close and see for yourself.
This exhibition will amaze both adults and children, providing a unique and educational experience for the whole family that is not to be missed. With every aspect of the exhibition designed in collaboration alongside prominent entomologists to ensure scientific accuracy, and utilizing technology to create life-like movements and gestures, you will truly feel like you are being transported into another world.

CHSRC offers the PSAT/MNSQT Testing for 9th-11th Grades
11th grade students may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. Due to the fact that we are the only PSAT provider exclusively for homeschool students in town, we welcome 9th grade homeschool students to test with us. Even so please note, the College Board recommends 8th and 9th graders to take the PSAT 8/9 instead of the regular PSAT test. The PSAT 8/9 is a test that will help the student and their parents figure out what the student needs to work on most so that they will be ready for college when they graduate from high school. It tests the same skills and knowledge as SAT, PSAT/MNSQT and PSAT 10 - in a way that makes sense for their grade level. Visit collegeboard.org for more information.
PSAT Testing date: October 15th, 2016
Students will be allowed to check-in starting at 7:30 am Doors close at 8:00 am sharp

The federal regulations are clear that an evaluation must be completed within 60 days of the date the school received parental consent or within the timeframe established by the State. [34 C.F.R. § 300.301(c)(1)] Arizona State Board of Education rules clarify that for either an initial evaluation or a re-evaluation, if the evaluation was initiated by the school, the timeline for completion is 60 calendar days from the date the school received informed written parental consent. [A.A.C. R7-2-401(E)(3)] The rule further explains that when a parent requests an evaluation and the MET concurs, the 60-day timeframe for conducting an initial evaluation to determine special education eligibility “shall commence with the date that the written parental request was received by the [school] and shall conclude with the date of the MET determination of eligibility.” [Id.] Put another way, when the parent initiates a referral for an initial evaluation (or a re-evaluation) to determine special education eligibility, the 60-day evaluation timeline begins not with the date of informed consent, but with the date on which the referral was received by the school.
