Take part in an online survey to develop regional travel solutions
Phoenix (March 2, 2026) – The North Valley Corridor online survey has been extended to March 8. Don’t miss your opportunity to share your thoughts and concerns.
Continued growth throughout the North Valley has brought new opportunities along with increasing transportation challenges. While the I-17 corridor and the surrounding area have seen major transportation improvements, serious challenges remain.
The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is undertaking the North Valley Corridor Study to understand these challenges and find ways to improve traffic flow and safety. The study began in July 2025, and the team has been collecting data on travel patterns, congestion, and safety concerns along the corridor.
The North Valley Corridor, running along I-17 from north of Carefree Highway (State Route 74) down to Loop 101 and then along the Loop 101 from I-17 over to Cave Creek Road, is part of a study to identify issues the area faces and determine an integrated, cost-effective way to implement near- and long term improvements.
Public input is a critical part of the study, and residents, commuters, and businesses are encouraged to participate.
Get Involved:
- Share your input through an online survey.
- Community input will help identify priorities and shape potential solutions.
- Additional opportunities to learn more and provide input will be available later this year at a public meeting.
Why It Is Important:
The study assesses existing and future travel demands within the corridor. The goal is to develop recommended improvements that enhance safety, improve regional connectivity and support planned development.
The study also addresses the following objectives:
- Understanding the function of the I-17 and Loop 101 freeways as well as the ramps within the I-17/Loop 101 system interchange in providing access and mobility to the surrounding area.
- Assessing and developing recommended improvements to improve safety.
- Identifying freeway improvements needed to meet existing and future demand.
- Developing priorities for future design and construction of the proposed improvements.
Study objectives will be met in partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the City of Phoenix, and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).
Key Facts:
- This 15-mile corridor has 18 interchanges and partial interchanges. Five of these are half interchanges with access to the freeway on one side but not the other, and are connected by frontage roads.
- Areas experiencing major congestion today include the I-17/ Loop 303 interchange, the I-17/Loop 101 interchange, and the entire Loop 101 mainline between I-17 and Cave Creek Road.
