SPDAT Trainers Requested

Are you OrgCode-certified and willing to build capacity in the region? Providers need your help! MAG will be organizing a SPDAT training later this year and is seeking facilitators. If you are interested, please reach out to Dillon Belmont at DBelmont@azmag.gov for more information.

Shelter Long-Stayers

The Decreasing Length of Stay Workgroup, part of the CoC Collaborative, is seeking information about long-stayers from shelter staff providing case management. The group is looking to collect information on individuals who remain in the shelter for an extended period, often beyond the expected or average length of stay. This information will be used to help the CoC identify barriers and solutions impacting the length of stay in shelters, so please share your thoughts here!

Outreach Viewer

Do you enter information into HMIS for the Outreach Viewer or use it in any capacity? If so, the Data Collaborative would love to hear from you in a brief survey to understand how you use this tool. This information will be used to better understand how the process of entering and using this data can be improved in our system.

First-Ever Federal Homelessness Prevention Framework – September 2024 Release

On September 23, 2024, the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) developed and released the Ending Homelessness Before It Starts: A Federal Homelessness Prevention Framework, which builds on the Prevention “Solutions” Pillar within All In: The Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. It directly supports the ALL INside initiative by way of recommendations for screening, diversion, and rehousing and stabilization of those experiencing unsheltered homelessness.

This Framework is a 46-page actionable guide that includes a focus on the All In Foundational Pillars of Equity, Data and Evidence, and Collaboration. Well over 100 hyperlinks to further resources, reports, programs, and evidence are included in this Framework. There are three overall Framework goals for communities to keep in mind when setting goals and thinking about what success looks like for prevention strategies and programs: 1) Identify people who are at risk of homelessness and help them stay in their home or quickly settle into a new one; 2) Tailor the type and level of resources based on need, and 3) Scale programs appropriately.

In addition to the framework, USICH published the first spotlight in a blog series on specific methods of homelessness prevention—such as guaranteed basic income and eviction prevention—with a focus on specific populations (youth, families, older adults, and people involved in the justice system). To inform the spotlights, USICH collected emerging best practices from communities that are working to prevent homelessness. Visit usich.gov/prevention to read the framework and blog series.

USICH wants to hear from you! Do you have best practices for effective and innovative ways to prevent homelessness? Click to share them with USICH.
