MAG Regional Analytics Digest: Quarterly update for MAG data and map users

Regional Analytics Digest | May 2021 | Maricopa Association of Governments
Inside this Issue:

Heat Relief Network

Each summer, MAG coordinates the mapping of the Heat Relief Network, a network of partners providing hydration stations, cooling centers, and water donation sites throughout the Valley  with the goal of preventing heat-related and heat-caused deaths among vulnerable populations and people experiencing homelessness. Partners fill out an online submission form to be included on the Heat Relief Network Interactive Viewer. Individuals and groups interested in partnering or donating can find more information here.

ACS Demographic Trends

MAG has created a set of slides and tables showing demographic trends from a comparison of the 2010-2014 American Community Survey 5-year estimates with the 2015-2019 American Community Survey 5-year estimates. This analysis examines how total population, age, minority population, level of education, and poverty status within the MAG region has changed in the two intervals, as well as a comparison of individual states for the same categories.

Movers Data

New data on household migration for the region is now available on the Community Profiles webpage. Presentation slides and tables show the number of households moving to and from the MAG region and its member cities and towns, including monthly incoming/outgoing figures and areas from which households are moving.

Arizona Exports

The webpage and infographic highlighting Arizona's export economy has been updated with 2019 and 2020 data. In 2019, commodities exported from Arizona were valued at $24.7 billion. The Phoenix Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) accounts for 69% of those exports. Trade is an important component for measuring how well the economy is doing. Net trade, exports minus imports, is a component of an area’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which measures personal consumption, business investment, government spending, and trade. In 2019 and 2020, Arizona experienced a trade balance deficit, with more imports than exports in both years.
