Inside this Issue:

Heat Relief Network

The Heat is on! Each summer, MAG coordinates the mapping of the Heat Relief Network, a network of partners providing hydration stations, refuge locations, and water donation sites throughout the Valley with the goal of preventing heat-related and heat caused deaths among vulnerable populations and people experiencing homelessness. Partners fill out an online submission in the spring to be included on the Heat Relief Network Interactive Viewer. Printed directories are also made available to network partners for distribution.

Employer Database Update

The Arizona COG/MPO Employer Database has been updated with 2019 data. The database includes information about all employers across Arizona with five or more employees. It also includes information on industry clusters, key industries, and foreign-owned businesses. The data is available through the Arizona Employer Viewer and users can acquire a copy of the 2019 database by contacting Scott Wilken. The Business, Jobs, and Industry dashboard, infographics, and commute shed reports have also been updated with the latest employer data.

Point-in-Time Homeless Count Report

The 2020 Point-in-Time (PIT) Homeless Count report shows that homelessness continues to rise across the region. The PIT Count is a one-night snapshot of homelessness in the Maricopa County region conducted annually in January. This year, a total of 7,419 people were identified as experiencing homelessness the night of January 27, 2020. 49% were sheltered in emergency shelters, transitional housing, or safe haven programs. 51% were unsheltered, sleeping on the streets or another place not meant for human habitation. For more details including demographics, trends, and methodology, see the full report.
