Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) Update

Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) Closed at Both Ends of HOV Project This Weekend (Aug. 19-22)
Closures near I-10 in West Valley and State Route 51 in Northeast Phoenix

As work continues on the HOV lanes on the Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway), drivers should be aware of a number of upcoming restrictions and closures, which include:

• Westbound Loop 101 closed between Tatum Boulevard and 35th Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) for rubberized asphalt paving. DETOUR: Exit at Tatum Boulevard south to Union Hills Drive west to 35th Avenue north to access Loop 101. Use Union Hills Drive for access to I-17.

• Northbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) for rubberized asphalt paving. DETOUR: Exit at Union Hills Drive west to 35th Avenue north to access Loop 101.

• Northbound Loop 101 closed between I-10 and Bethany Home Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) for restriping. DETOUR: Use 91st or 99th avenues north to Bethany Home Road to access Loop 101. NOTE: Closure extends to Glendale Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday. During this time use Glendale Avenue to access Loop 101.

• East and Westbound Interstate 10 ramps to northbound Loop 101 closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) for restriping. DETOUR: Use 91st or 99th avenues north to Glendale Avenue to access Loop 101.

• Southbound Loop 101 narrowed to one lane between Glendale Avenue and Bethany Home Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) for installation of temporary concrete barrier. Glendale Avenue on-ramp also closed. DETOUR: Traffic can access Loop 101 at Bethany Home Road.

Upon completion of this weekend’s westbound closure, a new auxiliary lane will open up on the Loop 101 between State Route 51 and Cave Creek Road. This new lane will help to improve the flow of traffic merging from State Route 51 onto the Loop 101.
