Improvements along Wintersburg Road & Sun Valley Parkway off Interstate 10 scheduled to begin Monday

Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a project to replace the pavement at the Wintersburg Road and Sun Valley Parkway traffic interchanges off Interstate 10 west of Phoenix beginning Monday, Oct. 29.

Crews will begin work at Wintersburg Road first and then proceed to Sun Valley Parkway the week of Nov. 5.

What to expect:

  • Work hours are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Beginning Monday, Oct. 29, traffic will be narrowed to one lane on Wintersburg Road at I-10. Workers will escort drivers through the work zone 24 hours a day.
  • Drivers will need to come to a complete stop as workers direct alternating traffic through the work zone.
  • Delays of up to 15 minutes may be experienced.
  • Message boards will be displayed to inform drivers of work zone restrictions.
  • Law enforcement will be on-site to monitor traffic and enforce speed limit.
  • A 12 foot width restriction will be in place at Wintersburg Road from Oct.29 - Nov. 9.
  • Sun Valley Parkway will be narrowed to one lane in each direction at times the week of Nov. 5-9.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT will advise the public of construction schedule changes as they become available. Paving work is anticipated during night time hours in November.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
