Existing restrictions at Adams Peak, Sibyl Road and westbound rest area extended through the end of August
Motorists traveling on westbound Interstate 10 through Texas Canyon will encounter travel restrictions next week while the Arizona Department of Transportation pours concrete for new drainage culverts.
The right lane of westbound I-10 will be closed starting at the Johnson Road traffic interchange (Exit 322) and will remain closed for two miles while crews construct three new drainage culverts.
The closure, in effect from 6 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily, is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Aug. 22 and continue through Friday, Aug. 24. The posted speed limit through the restricted area will be 55 mph and message boards will be place before reaching the work zone to notify motorists of the restrictions.
Two other lane restrictions on westbound I-10 – at Adams Peak Wash and Sibyl Road – will remain in place until Friday, Aug. 31 while ADOT crews continue work on bridges at those locations. Adams Peak Wash is located near milepost 309 and Sibyl Road is located near milepost 313.
The Texas Canyon rest area on westbound I-10 is also scheduled to remain closed for construction until Friday, Aug. 31.
The work is part of a $4.2 million project to repave 14 miles of westbound I-10 between the east end of Texas Canyon and Benson that also includes drainage improvements, guardrail repair and bridge rehabilitation. The repaving is scheduled to begin in September 2012 with completion in December 2012.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
