UPDATE: First restrictions scheduled for Loop 303, Lake Pleasant Parkway to Interstate 17 improvement project

**This alert updates the start time for the closure of the northbound I-17 off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive**

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following restrictions in north Phoenix, as work begins on the Loop 303 improvement project from Lake Pleasant Parkway to Interstate 17: 

Dove Valley Road

• The southbound I-17 on-ramp at Dove Valley Road will be closed from 2 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
• Detour: Drivers may consider using westbound Dove Valley Road to southbound 43rd Avenue to eastbound Loop 303 or eastbound Dove Valley Road to southbound North Valley Parkway to westbound Sonoran Desert Drive to access I-17.

Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive

• The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive will be closed from  2 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
• Detour: Drivers may consider using the I-17 off-ramp at Dove Valley Road and traveling west to southbound 43rd Avenue to access Loop 303 or travel east to southbound North Valley Parkway to access Sonoran Desert Drive.
• UPDATED: The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive will be closed from 12 p.m. (noon) Saturday, Feb. 21, to 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.
• Detour: Drivers may consider using the I-17 off-ramp at Dove Valley Road and traveling west to southbound 43rd Avenue to access Loop 303 or travel east to southbound North Valley Parkway to access Sonoran Desert Drive.

      Note: The north- and southbound I-17 on- and off-ramps will not be closed simultaneously. 

I-17

• Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes between Dove Valley Road and Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive from 2 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, to 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.
• Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to three lanes from Dixileta Drive to Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive from 2 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, to 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.

The project, which is expected to take two and a half years to complete, includes these improvements:  

• Constructing four new direct connecting ramps for the I-17/Loop 303 system interchange
• Adding a third general-purpose lane on Loop 303 in each direction between Lake Pleasant Parkway and I-17
• Constructing new bridges to accommodate a future traffic interchange at 67th Avenue
• Installing new lighting
• Constructing drainage improvements
• Installing new overhead signs

Project map

Lane restrictions and full closures of Loop 303 and I-17 will be needed and will occur primarily during overnight hours and on weekends. Weeknight and weekend I-17 and Loop 303 frontage road closures and lane restrictions will be needed, as well as lane restrictions on Sonoran Desert Drive, 43rd and 51st avenues. Weeknight and weekend full closures of Sonoran Desert Drive at I-17 and the I-17 on- and off-ramps also will be needed.
