Final Environmental Assessment, Design Concept Report released for El Mirage Road: Loop 303 to Jomax Road

Project now advances to final design phase

Efforts to extend El Mirage Road from Loop 303 to Jomax Road to meet traffic needs are advancing following more than a year of environmental and engineering studies by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) in coordination with the City of Peoria, Maricopa Association of Governments, Maricopa County and other agencies.

ADOT has released the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) with a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), and the Final Design Concept Report (DCR), for the El Mirage Road: Loop 303 to Jomax Road Study. The Final EA and DCR are available for review under the Resources tab on the project website.  ADOT prepared the Final EA in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The FONSI was prepared to document ADOT’s determination that the proposed action would not result in significant impacts.

Project elements include:

  • Extending and widening El Mirage Road from Loop 303 to Jomax Road.
  • Constructing bridge crossings over McMicken Wash and the Beardsley Canal.
  • Adding signalized intersections at El Mirage and Happy Valley and Jomax roads and improving other El Mirage Road cross-street intersections between Loop 303 and Jomax Road.

The Final DCR provides project plans at the 15-percent design level. With issuance of the FONSI, the project can move into the final design phase, which is anticipated to begin later this year. Details about public involvement opportunities during final design will be announced when they are finalized.
