ADOT starting bridge rehabilitation project on I-40 in Holbrook Monday, Nov. 10

Drivers should expect lane restrictions on I-40 on Monday

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare for lane restrictions on Interstate 40 at the Perkins Valley Road overpass (Exit 283) in Holbrook on Monday, Nov. 10, as a new bridge rehabilitation project begins.

Drivers should expect the following restrictions from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • I-40 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane in each direction at the Perkins Valley Road overpass (Exit 283).
  • Drivers will need to slow down and merge over into the open lane when approaching the work zone and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.
  • Traffic delays due to slow moving traffic should be expected while traveling through the work zone.

Beginning next spring, Perkins Valley Road will be narrowed to one lane only of alternating north- and southbound travel over I-40. A temporary traffic signal will be put in place to direct traffic over the bridge.

The project will replace the current bridge deck with a new wider bridge deck with 8-foot shoulders. Crews are scheduled to complete the first phase of construction over the next couple of months, then return in the spring to continue the project.

The project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2026.
