In June 2025, the Arizona Department of Transportation completed a study evaluating the location and design concepts of four potential traffic interchanges on Loop 303 between US 60 and El Mirage Road. Considering public feedback and technical analysis, the study team has identified a Loop 303 interchange at 155th Avenue as the recommended alternative.
The purpose of this new interchange is to address growing traffic volumes in the area and alleviate congestion at the existing US 60/Loop 303 traffic interchange and the US 60/163rd Ave intersection by creating a new freeway access point for communities north of Loop 303. Project elements will include the following:
- Northbound Loop 303 on- and off-ramps crossing over the freeway to reach a signalized intersection with 155th Avenue.
- A bridge over McMicken Dam Outlet Channel connecting the new interchange with 155th Avenue north of Loop 303.
- New traffic signals, lighting and signage.
The Final Project Assessment (FPA), which includes preliminary design information and justification for recommending the Loop 303/155th Avenue alternative, is now publicly available on the study webpage at azdot.gov/Loop303TIAlternatives.
This project is being conducted in coordination with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) and the cities of Peoria and Surprise. Final design is expected to begin in early 2026, with construction planned to begin in late 2028.
