Interstate 40 bridge, pavement improvement projects east of Holbrook to resume Thursday, May 1

Plan for lane restrictions

The Arizona Department of Transportation will resume a project to make improvements along Interstate 40 between Pinta and McCarrell roads (milepost 319-331) on Thursday, May 1.

Drivers can expect around-the-clock single lane restrictions along eastbound I-40 at Crazy Creek (milepost 323) and under the Navajo Road traffic interchange overpass (milepost 326). These restrictions will be in place for approximately one month while crews remove and replace bridge barriers.

Pavement work is scheduled to resume Wednesday, May 7. Drivers can expect the following restrictions Mondays through Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • East- and westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in various locations no longer than 3 miles between Pinta and McCarrell roads (mileposts 319-331).
  • Drivers need to be prepared to slow down and merge over safely to the open lane in the work zone and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.
  • Pavement work restrictions will be lifted after work hours. No work is scheduled for weekends and holidays.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the fall.
