The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for daytime lane restrictions on State Route 260 west of Heber-Overgaard as a roadway safety improvement project restarts after shutting down due to winter weather conditions.
The restrictions are scheduled daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 6 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Motorists should expect delays up to 30 minutes while the following restrictions are in place:
- SR 260 will be narrowed to one lane only with alternating east- and westbound travel between Forest Road 300 and Heber-Overgaard (mileposts 282-304).
- Flaggers and a pilot car will guide drivers through the work zone.
- The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph.
- An 11-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place. Wider loads can be accommodated with 12-hours notice.
Traffic restrictions will be removed during non-working hours and weekends.
ADOT advises drivers to slow down and be prepared to stop in the work zone while the safety improvement project is underway.
The $24.9 million project includes constructing a 5-foot shoulder on both sides of the roadway, extending and improving drainage facilities, guardrail improvements, spot pavement repairs and restriping of the roadway. Construction is scheduled though fall 2024.
