State Route 69 widening project restarting in Prescott April 16

SR 69 widening

The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to restart a construction project on Sunday, April 16, to widen and improve a two-mile segment of State Route 69 in Prescott.

The $9.8 million project, which is being done in partnership with the Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Organization, is constructing one additional travel lane in each direction on SR 69 between Prescott Lakes Parkway and Heather Heights (mileposts 294-296). The project will increase the capacity of the roadway from four to six lanes and include a raised-center median.

Crews will continue working on various elements of the project, including:

  • Installing raised center medians between Prescott Lakes Parkway and Heather Heights.
  • Constructing curb and gutter.
  • Installing new pipe culverts and storm drains.
  • Other related work.

While construction is underway, drivers should be prepared for the following restrictions:

Daytime work:

  • 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
  • Two travel lanes will remain open in each direction.
  • Business access will be maintained. However, there may be brief restrictions when work takes place in front of driveways or side streets.
  • No restrictions are anticipated during weekends or state holidays.

Evening work:

  • SR 69 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between Prescott Lakes Parkway and Heather Heights (mileposts 294-296) from 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Thursday mornings.
  • A 11-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 35 miles per hour.
  • Business access will be maintained. However, there may be brief restrictions when work takes place in front of driveways or side streets.
  • No restrictions are anticipated during weekends or state holidays.

Sidewalks will be closed in all directions at the intersection of SR 69 and Holiday Drive during construction. Barricades and signage will be in place to guide drivers through the work zone.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in fall 2025. For more information, please visit the project’s website.
