Reminder: Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closure and lane restrictions planned March 28-April 7

Update: Long-term ramp closure at Gilbert Road now planned April 11 

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following restrictions and ramp closures along Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) as work continues on the Loop 202, Loop 101 to Val Vista Drive widening project:

Loop 202 Closure March 29-30

  • Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be closed between Alma School and Dobson roads from 11:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, to noon Sunday, March 30.
  • The eastbound Loop 202 HOV lane also will be closed between Dobson and Alma School roads.
  • The following ramps will also be closed:
    • Westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Cooper and McQueen roads and Arizona Avenue
  • DETOUR: Westbound drivers on Loop 202 may consider exiting ahead of the closure and using Pecos or Germann roads.

Loop 202 Lane Restriction March 28 - April 7 

  • Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be narrowed to two lanes in the area of the Val Vista Drive interchange from 10 a.m. Friday, March 28, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 7, for pavement removal and replacement.

Lane Restrictions March 30 - April 1

  • Northbound Arizona Avenue will be CLOSED at the Loop 202 interchange from 9 p.m. Saturday, March 30, to 5 a.m. Sunday, March 31.
  • Southbound Arizona Avenue will be CLOSED at the Loop 202 interchange from 9 p.m. Sunday, March 31, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 1. 

UPDATED: Long-term Ramp Closure April 11 

  • The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road will close at 11:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, for approximately 60 days for ramp reconstruction.
  • DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the eastbound on-ramps at Cooper or Lindsay roads 

Please help us promote highway safety. Speed limits are reduced to 55 miles per hour in work zones for the safety of you and workers. Slow down, stay alert and be prepared to merge with caution when approaching and traveling through all work zones.
