UPDATE: Westbound I-40 in Kingman to be closed intermittently overnight March 20, March 24 and March 27 for girder placement

This update includes two additional overnight closure dates

I-40 bridge girder

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan ahead for overnight lane restrictions and intermittent full closures of up to 30 minutes on westbound Interstate 40 at White Cliffs Road in Kingman for bridge girder placement.

The following restrictions and closures will be in place from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. during the nights of March 20, March 24 and March 27 for the installation:

  • Westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane roughly between Stockton Hill and White Cliffs roads.
  • Beginning at 10 p.m. flaggers will stop and direct traffic through the work zone.
  • There will be a total of eight intermittent full closures during each night of work
  • The closures are expected to last 30 minutes at a time, at which point traffic will be allowed to proceed through the work zone.
  • The speed limit through the work zone will be 45 mph.
  • Drivers should be prepared to come to a complete stop when approaching and driving through the work zone.

The closures are necessary for crews to safely deliver and install the girders necessary to connect I-40 and US 93 as work continues on the new system-to-system interchange project. Bridge girders are the large horizontal beams that provide the primary structural support for the bridge deck, which is the top surface of the bridge that motorists drive on.
