US 60X project construction begins next phase Dec. 2

Traffic to be shifted to inside lane while work occurs on outside lane and driveways

Work is progressing to the next phase on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s US 60X Sossaman to Meridian Corridor Improvements.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 2, US 60X (Main Street/Apache Trail) will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Ellsworth and Meridian roads to allow crews to work on paving, sidewalks, bike lanes, curbing, drainage and driveways. Drivers will use the inside lane while work occurs in the outside lanes. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained. This phase will take approximately nine months to complete.

Construction for this project began in February 2024 on the inside (median) portion of the road. Crews worked on curbing, paving, medians, drainage improvements and utility relocation. Many of the median crossovers along Main Street/Apache Trail were improved by lengthening or adding new turn bays while others were removed (see map below) to improve traffic flow and safety by reducing  the number of turning movement conflicts. Please note that the 88th Street median crossover is currently closed, but will be reopened to traffic at a later date.

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment in all work zones.
