State highways in northern Arizona closing for the winter

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers of the following state highways that are closing for the winter:

  • State Route 473 between State Route 260 and Hawley Lake in the White Mountains – Thursday, Nov. 14.
  • State Route 67 that leads to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon – Monday, Dec. 2.
  • State Route 261 between Eagar and Big Lake in the White Mountains – Sunday, Dec. 29.
  • State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake in the White Mountains – Sunday, Dec. 29.

These highways are subject to close sooner depending upon the amount of snowfall in the weather forecast. ADOT will send out an updated notification if any of the closure dates change.

ADOT closes these state roadways annually as part of the agency’s winter shutdown schedule due to the significant amounts of snowfall these parts of the state typically receive.
