North- and southbound I-17 to be narrowed to one lane in North Phoenix this weekend (Oct. 18-21)

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) advises drivers to allow extra time while the following lane restrictions and ramp closures are in place this week and weekend for the I-17 Happy Valley Road to SR 74 Pavement Project.

Weekend Restrictions (Oct. 18-21) 

• Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between SR 74/Carefree Highway and Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive nightly from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. The following ramps also will have nightly closures:
• The southbound I-17 on- and off-ramp at SR 74/Carefree Highway Friday and Saturday nights
• The southbound I-17 off-ramps at Dove Valley Road and Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive Friday and Saturday nights
• The southbound I-17 off- and on-ramps at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive Sunday night

Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Weeknight Restrictions for (Oct. 16-17)

• Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane nightly between SR 74/Carefree Highway and Loop 303 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The following ramps also will be closed:

• • The southbound I-17 on- and off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive
  • The southbound I-17 on-ramp at Dove Valley Road

• Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane nightly between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The following ramps also will be closed:

• The northbound I-17 off- and on-ramps at Jomax Road
• The northbound I-17 frontage road at Sonoran Desert Drive will be closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday, to 5 a.m. Thursday.
• The Dixileta Drive overpass will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Crews are continuing a much-needed project to improve the pavement along I-17. An older and rough top layer of asphalt pavement has been removed and specialized equipment is now being used to diamond grind the base concrete pavement, creating a smoother, safer and longer lasting riding surface along 6 miles of I-17.
