Expect daytime lane restrictions on Interstate 40 west of Flagstaff Sept. 12-19 for pavement repair

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for daytime lane restrictions on I-40 near Flagstaff from Thursday, Sept. 12, through Thursday, Sept. 19.

The following restrictions will be in place from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • I-40 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane in each direction between the community of Parks and A-1 Mountain Road (mileposts 179-191).
  • Temporary ramp closures with marked detours will be in place.
  • The Parks Rest Area (milepost 183) will be closed until work is completed.
  • Flaggers and signage will guide drivers through the work zone.
  • Drivers should be prepared to make frequent stops and expect delays while moving through the work zone.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
  • Pavement markings visibility will be reduced until early October when new markings are applied.
  • Restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours.
  • No work is anticipated to take place on weekends.

The restrictions are needed to complete pavement preservation work along this section of I-40.
