Expect extended delays on State Route 260 between Rim Road and Heber-Overgaard as safety improvement project continues

Drivers should plan for long delays to get through the work zone

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for extended delays on State Route 260 west of Heber-Overgaard as a roadway safety improvement project progresses. Restrictions are scheduled daily from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 5 a.m. to noon Fridays.

Motorist should expect long delays while the following restrictions are in place:

  • SR 260 will be narrowed to one lane only with alternating east- and westbound travel between Rim Road to Heber-Overgaard (mileposts 282 - 304)
  • There will be multiple flagging stations with pilot cars in each direction to guide drivers through the work zone.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph.
  • An 11-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place. Wider loads can be accommodated with 12-hours notice.
  • Delays through the work zone typically increase later in the week as traffic volumes increase.

Traffic restrictions will be removed during non-working hours, weekends and holidays.

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and be prepared to stop in the work zone while the safety improvement project is underway.

The $24.9 million project includes extending and improving drainage facilities, constructing a 5-foot shoulder on both sides of the roadway, guardrail improvements, spot pavement repairs and restriping of the roadway. Construction is scheduled through summer 2026.
