I-17 pavement improvement work in north Phoenix will require closures, lane restrictions starting in May

A project to improve the pavement on Interstate 17 between Happy Valley Road and State Route 74 is scheduled to begin in May. The work is designed to improve the freeway’s driving surface and provide longer-lasting, upgraded pavement conditions. Work will include:

  • Removing the existing asphalt pavement and repairing the existing concrete surface
  • Diamond grinding the existing concrete to provide a smooth roadway surface
  • Making bridge deck repairs
  • Replacing pavement markings and other improvements

The I-17, Happy Valley Road to SR 74 project is expected to take approximately one year to complete. Drivers can expect overnight and weekend lane restrictions, as well as full freeway closures. ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on the project website.
