This photo shows the new concrete curb and gutter starting to take shape of the intersection of the new Vulture Mine Road and US 93 roundabout, which will eventually replace the current traffic signal.
Phase three is now underway on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s US 93: Tegner Street - Wickenburg Ranch Way construction project in Wickenburg.
Along with entering a new phase of construction, the project also has reached the 50% completion mark. The project is widening and improving a 4-mile segment of US 93 between Tegner Street and Wickenburg Ranch Way (mileposts 194 - 199).
This project is part of ADOT's long-term vision to transform the highly traveled corridor into a four-lane divided highway through the entire 200-mile segment of US 93 in Arizona.
Thus far, the four-phase project has completed the following elements:
- Installed stormwater pipe under the future southbound US 93.
- Installed curb-and-gutter runs for southbound US 93, including the partial roundabout construction at Rincon Road.
- Constructed a new frontage road adjacent to US 93 between 327th Avenue and Diamondback Road. Construction of another new frontage road between Vulture Mine Road and Quail Run is 80% complete.
- Constructed the new Tegner Street extension between the Tegner Street roundabout and Rincon Road.
This photo shows the existing Tegner Street and US 93 roundabout, facing south toward downtown Wickenburg. This roundabout will receive upgrades to the northern part of the structure.
Before the Christmas holiday, US 93 traffic near Tegner Street will be shifted onto the newly paved southbound US 93, which has been under construction the past seven months, to make way for completing new construction activities at the new roundabout locations.
In addition, the new roundabouts at Scenic Loop, Vulture Mine Road and Rincon Road are currently being constructed and will soon be open to the traveling public.
This major construction project is happening all while keeping US 93 open during weekdays, weekends and holidays. Lane closures and restrictions only occur during weeknight overnight hours to minimize impacts to the traveling public who rely on this corridor. However, the majority of the work still happens during the day as crews work in the median or on the sides of the highway.
