The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers in Surprise to plan for nightly lane restrictions on US 60 (Grand) Avenue between Loop 303 and 163rd Avenue from Dec. 10 - 20 as crews work on roadway improvements.
- Crews will be restriping east- and westbound US 60 turn lanes to north- and southbound Loop 303 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly beginning Sunday, Dec. 10, through the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 13. This work will require temporary lane restrictions.
- Westbound Grand Avenue between Loop 303 and 163rd Avenue will be reduced to one lane nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Wednesday, Dec. 13, through the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 20. Work is currently not scheduled for Friday or Saturday night.
- A 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place during this time.
- Oversized vehicles may use State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) as an alternate route.
- The speed limit for the work zone will be 45 mph.
The work will result in the following improvements:
- Adding a third westbound lane on Grand Avenue from Loop 303 to 163rd Avenue.
- Adding a second right turn lane on westbound Grand Avenue to northbound 163rd Avenue, which will continue from the new third lane.
- A new right turn green arrow signal will also be installed to allow right turns onto northbound 163rd Avenue while southbound 163rd Avenue traffic is turning left onto eastbound Grand Avenue.
Additional improvements are planned in this location beginning in the summer of 2024. Visit the project website at azdot.gov/us60-303-upgrades for more information.
