The Arizona Department of Transportation has completed a pavement improvement project on Interstate 17 from Dunlap Avenue to Deer Valley Road which began September 2022. The improvements included:
- Removing the existing asphalt pavement and repairing existing concrete pavement
- Diamond grinding existing concrete pavement to provide a smooth roadway surface
- Making bridge deck pavement repairs
- Replacing pavement markings, including lane line stripes and other miscellaneous work
The project utilized a diamond grinding technique to preserve and rehabilitate the concrete pavement surface of the highway providing travelers with a smooth, quiet ride.
Diamond grinding provides a longer-lasting, more sustainable solution than the rubberized asphalt surface, while still providing noise reduction benefits that remain constant over time.
ADOT thanks the community for its support and patience throughout construction.
