The Arizona Department of Transportation completed the I-10, SR 85 to Verrado Way Improvements Project in the West Valley this week. The project was designed to improve safety and overall traffic flow for local drivers in Buckeye and motorists on longer trips in or out of the West Valley.
The improvements included the following:
- Widened I-10 by one lane in both directions between Verrado Way and State Route 85
- Reconstructed the traffic interchanges at Miller and Watson roads to a Diverging Diamond design.
- Fully reconstructed and widened Miller and Watson roads at I-10 to provide a minimum of two lanes in each direction.
- Constructed new drainage facilities, including storm drains and catch basins.
- Constructed sound walls along I‐10 where warranted.
- Installed freeway management system technology.
Construction on the two-year, $82 million project, started in July 2021 and was completed on schedule.
This I-10 project in Buckeye was part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation Plan. It was funded in part by Prop 400, a dedicated sales tax for transportation improvements approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
