Lane closures will begin at 7 p.m. from Anthem Way to Sunset Point
The Arizona Department of Transportation reminds motorists to plan for overnight lane restrictions on Interstate 17 this week. The work is starting Wednesday, July 5, and ending the morning of Saturday, July 8, as the I-17 Improvement Project between Anthem Way and Sunset Point continues.
In addition, New River Road under I-17 will be closed in both directions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, July 5, to the morning of Saturday, July 8.
Drivers should allow extra travel time, drive with caution, and reduce their speed around construction personnel and equipment while the following closures and restrictions are in place:
Northbound
Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (left lane closed) from New River Road to Black Canyon City/Rock Springs (mileposts 232-242) from 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, to 6 a.m. Thursday, July 6, and from 7 p.m. Thursday, July 6, to 6 a.m. Friday, July 7, for earthwork and the placement of temporary concrete barriers.
Southbound
Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (alternating left- and right-lane closures) at various locations between Sunset Point and Anthem Way (mileposts 252-229) nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, July 5, to the morning of Saturday, July 8, for electrical work and earthwork.
New River Road
New River Road under I-17 will be closed in both directions nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning the evening of Wednesday, July 5, until the morning of Saturday, July 8, to widen the I-17 bridge over New River Road. Freeway access will be maintained, but no through traffic will be permitted on New River Road under I-17 while work is underway.
