UPDATE: Interstate 17 Sunset Point Rest Area south of Cordes Junction closed for paving April 24 through April 28

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising commercial truckers that parking at Sunset Point Rest Area located on Interstate 17 between Black Canyon City and Cordes Junction (milepost 252) will be closed beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, April 24, through 5 p.m. Friday, April 28. 

The parking lot closure is necessary to allow construction crews to repave the parking lot.

Sunset Point Rest Area is currently undergoing an extensive renovation, including:

• Renovating the restrooms.
• Renovating the ramadas.
• Replacing or upgrading landscaping, sidewalks, signage and lighting.
• Upgrading the facility's water and wastewater systems.
• Expanding commercial truck parking.
• Improving amenities to make the facility more accessible for persons with disabilities.

Construction is expected to end before the summer 2023 travel season.
