The Arizona Department of Transportation is starting work to make improvements to the drainage system along SR 88 between Tomahawk and Buffalo roads. The project is expected to be completed this summer. The improvements will include installing new pipe culverts for the intersection at SR 88 and Tomahawk Road and modifying three existing culverts in the project area.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Sections of SR 88 will be narrowed to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between Vista and Buffalo roads nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Friday nights, beginning Feb. 28 and continuing for three weeks.
- Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone during these nightly closures.
- The intersection of SR 88 and Tomahawk Road will be closed for 50 days beginning in March. Construction hours will be daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- No weekend work is planned.
DETOURS
During the closure of the SR 88 intersection at Tomahawk Road:
- Drivers traveling northeast on SR 88 may use eastbound Superstition Boulevard and northbound Goldfield Road to Lost Dutchman Boulevard, then turn west to return to SR 88.
- Drivers traveling southwest on SR 88 may use westbound Lost Dutchman Boulevard to southbound Idaho Road to return to SR 88.
ADOT will provide more details as they become available and will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures on the project website and through email alerts. We encourage you to sign up for our project email list to receive construction alerts.
