Lane restrictions on I-17 scheduled for the week ahead (Sept. 19-24) between Camp Verde and Anthem Way

As work continues on Interstate 17 north of Phoenix for fiber optic cable installation and the Interstate 17 Improvement Project between Anthem Way and Sunset Point, motorists should expect lane restrictions next week.  

The Arizona Department of Transportation reminds drivers to slow down, proceed through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the following restrictions are in place from Monday, Sept. 19, to Saturday, Sept. 24:

  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) near Table Mesa Road (mileposts 238-236) from 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, for guardrail repair.
  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) in 2-3 mile increments from north of Table Mesa Road to Anthem Way (mileposts 237-229) overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday evening, Sept. 19, to Friday morning, Sept. 23, for rumble strip removal.  
  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) at Camp Verde (milepost 291) from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, for fiber optic cable installation.
  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (left lane closed) at Black Canyon City (mileposts 243-242) from 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, for equipment mobilization.
  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) near New River Road (mileposts 232-231) from 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, to Thursday, Sept. 22, for guardrail repair.
  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) north of Table Mesa Road (mileposts 238-237) from 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept 24, for landscape work.
  • Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) near New River Road (mileposts 232-234) from 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, for guardrail repair.

ADOT is installing high-speed fiber optic infrastructure along 67 miles of I-17 between the McGuireville Rest Area (north of Camp Verde) and Anthem Way. Work is expected to continue through fall 2022, and will proceed along I-17 in segments of several miles per week. The I-17 Improvement Project between Anthem Way and Sunset Point includes widening 15 miles of north- and southbound I-17 between Anthem Way and Black Canyon City; replacing two bridges and widening 10 others; and constructing approximately 8 miles of flex lanes between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point.
