Drivers who use Interstate 17 in the Phoenix area should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following weekend restrictions are in place for pavement removal and sign work.
-
Northbound I-17 between Thunderbird Road and Union Hills Drive will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19.
-
North- and southbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes between Dunlap Avenue and Thunderbird Road from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19.
- The following ramps also will be closed:
- The northbound I-17 on-ramps at Northern, Dunlap, and Peoria avenues, and Cactus, Thunderbird, Greenway and Bell roads.
DETOUR: Motorists may consider exiting ahead of the closure and using 19th and 35th avenues to Deer Valley Rd to connect with I-17 beyond the closure. Motorists may also use alternate routes including northbound SR 51 or Loop 101 (West Valley) to avoid heavy backups along I-17.
Drivers should use caution and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through any work zones.
