The Arizona Department of Transportation is making final preparations on a pavement improvement project on Interstate 17 between Dunlap Avenue and Deer Valley Road. The project's schedule has been updated and work is slated to start by late September. Construction is expected to take approximately 12 months.
The project will extend the life of the freeway’s pavement, improving the quality of the riding surface and enhancing safety. The project includes removing remaining sections of asphalt pavement followed by a diamond grinding treatment to provide a smoother roadway surface.
Drivers should plan for weekend closures and overnight lane restrictions on I-17 while crews are working to improve the freeway’s pavement. ADOT will provide information about restrictions and closures in advance to assist drivers with decisions about alternate routes. Drivers should prepare to allow extra travel time and use caution in all work zones.
