Lane closure scheduled on Interstate 17 between General Crook Trail and State Route 169, May 31 and June 1

As work continues on Interstate 17 south of Flagstaff for fiber-optic cable installation, motorists should plan for a lane closure in the week ahead. However, no closures are scheduled over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The Arizona Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down, be prepared to merge into the open lane and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the following lane closure is in place:

  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) from General Crook Trail to State Route 169 (mileposts 284-281) from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, and Wednesday, June 1.
    • A vehicle-width limit of 14 feet will be in place.

Speed limits may be reduced in the work zones. For the most up-to-date information, visit az511.gov or call 511, except while driving.

ADOT is installing high-speed fiber optic infrastructure along 67 miles of I-17 between the McGuireville Rest Area (north of Camp Verde) and Anthem Way. Work is expected to continue through mid-2022, and will proceed along I-17 in segments of several miles per week. Crews are installing conduit and pull-box systems, fiber optic cables, node buildings and load centers. Learn more on the project website or call the ADOT Project Information Line at 855.712.8530.
