 February 2022
As construction continues on the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project, we ask that you drive 55 mph in the work zone and stay alert. Safe driving saves lives and prevents damage to construction equipment.
If you drive through the 11-mile project area on I-10, you have no doubt seen increased construction activity - especially near 48th Street, State Route 143 and Broadway Road; near Tempe Diablo Stadium; at Guadalupe Road; and south of Baseline Road.
Work on the new Broadway Road bridge over I-10 continues with workers excavating the area where they will construct the second abutment. An abutment is the supporting structure that carries the load of the bridge. Once workers complete the excavation work, they will begin installing rebar and forming the abutment foundation and wall. In the median near Broadway Road, workers began removing the concrete barrier and preparing to construct the center supporting column.
Workers continued installing the drilled-shaft foundations that will support the columns and abutments for the new 48th Street bridges over I-10. In the median of I-10 near Tempe Diablo Stadium (Alameda Drive), crews began installing the drilled-shaft foundation that will support the bridge over I-10 for pedestrians and bicyclists. Once the drilled-shaft foundations have passed integrity testing, crews will begin constructing the supporting columns.
Between 24th and 40th streets, workers continue to install the foundations for new light poles and will begin moving the existing light poles to the new foundations. When complete, drivers can expect energy-efficient lighting throughout the project area.
The team continues to repair pavement throughout the project area. The Broadway Curve Constructors (BCC) strive to maintain the roadway surface so it's as smooth as possible, while also limiting impacts on drivers, such as ramp, lane and highway closures. Crews are working to schedule pavement repairs at the same time as other project work to reduce impacts on motorists. The BCC appreciates everyone's patience as pavement-repair work continues.
What’s happening in the middle of I-10 near Tempe Diablo Stadium? Crews are installing the drilled-shaft foundation for the new pedestrian and bicyclist bridge.

The maximum speed limit in the work zone is 55 mph. New messages on ADOT's overhead signs remind drivers to slow down and drive carefully to protect themselves, other drivers and work crews and to prevent damage to equipment.
