The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for lane restrictions along Interstate 17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff as a project to install fiber-optic cable continues along the roadway.

Drivers should slow down, proceed through the work zones with caution and watch for construction personnel while the following around-the-clock restrictions are in place from 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, to noon Friday, Feb. 25:

Southbound I-17

  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane in two-mile increments south of Rocky Park Road, between mileposts 313 – 309.
  • A vehicle width limit of 16 feet will be in place. Oversized vehicles can be accommodated with advance notice.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.

Northbound I-17

  • Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane in two-mile increments near the Stoneman Lake Road exit, between mileposts 305 – 309.
  • A vehicle width limit of 16 feet will be in place.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.

In addition, the following overnight restrictions will be in place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, Feb. 21, through Friday, Feb. 25:

  • Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane at the following areas:
    • Near the community of New River (between mileposts 234 – 237).
    • Near Sunset Point (milepost 252).
    • Northbound exit road at New River Road (milepost 232).

The fiber-optic cable installation project, which is expected to continue through mid-2022, will proceed along I-17 in segments of several miles per week.
