Interstate 40 Meteor Crater Rest Area scheduled to reopen in time for holiday travel

The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to reopen the Interstate 40 Meteor Crater Rest Area east of Flagstaff on Monday, Nov. 22, after completing nearly $3.5 million in renovations.

Renovations include upgrading the facility’s water/wastewater, electrical and mechanical systems, as well as making site improvements.

This work was part of a project that included the renovation of the I-40 Painted Cliffs Rest Area near the Arizona-New Mexico state line. That work was completed in September 2020.
