UPDATE: Interstate 10 in central Phoenix closed beginning Friday night (June 25) for tunnel maintenance

This advisory updates the scheduled closures of the eastbound I-10 on-ramps to include Seventh Street.

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers who travel through central Phoenix on Interstate 10 to plan ahead to use alternate routes at night and in the early morning hours this weekend while sections of the freeway are closed for Deck Park Tunnel maintenance. Several ramps connecting I-10 with Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway), State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway), and Interstate 17 will also be closed. ADOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time while the following closures are in place:

Eastbound I-10

  • Eastbound I-10 will be closed between the I-10/I-17 “Stack” interchange and Seventh Street from 9 p.m. Friday, June 25, to 9 a.m. Saturday, June 26. Detour: Eastbound I-10 traffic can detour to southbound I-17 at the “Stack” and reconnect with I-10 at the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. 
  • North- and southbound I-17 ramps to eastbound I-10 at the “Stack” interchange will also be closed. Detour: Drivers who normally use those ramps should consider alternate routes, including reconnecting with I-10 at the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
  • (UPDATED) The eastbound I-10 on-ramps between 19th Avenue and Seventh Street, and the Third Street HOV on-ramp will also be closed. Detour: Drivers who normally use those ramps should consider alternate routes, including eastbound Jefferson Street or McDowell Road to southbound SR 51 to access eastbound I-10. 

Westbound I-10

  • Westbound I-10 will be closed between the I-17 "Split" interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday, June 26, to 9 a.m. Sunday, June 27.  Detour: Westbound I-10 traffic can detour to northbound I-17 at the “Split” interchange.
  • The southbound I-17 ramp to westbound I-10 at the “Split” will be closed. Detour: Consider exiting southbound I-17 to northbound 16th Street to eastbound Buckeye Road to access Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
  • The southbound SR 51 ramp to westbound I-10 will be closed. Detour: Use westbound McDowell Road to southbound Seventh Avenue to access westbound I-10.
  • The westbound I-10 on-ramp at Washington Street will be restricted. Access will be limited to northbound SR 51 or eastbound Loop 202 only.
  • The westbound I-10 Sky Harbor Boulevard on-ramp will be restricted. Access will be limited to northbound SR 51 or eastbound Loop 202 only.
  • The westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at 24th Street will be closed. Detour: Consider using westbound McDowell Road or Van Buren Street to Seventh Avenue as alternate routes.
  • The westbound I-10 on-ramps at 16th and Seventh streets will be closed. Detour: Consider using westbound McDowell Road or Van Buren Street to Seventh Avenue to access westbound I-10.

 

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while work is underway.
